Music! Most of us like music—though we don’t all like the same stuff. My taste is eclectic; I like most types to some extent, and my least liked music styles are probably folk and country music.

This section is still in concept mode, so don’t expect much.

My Musical Journey

I tried not to like certain pop styles in my late teens and early twenties, thinking they were not “cool”. I am not alone in thinking I shouldn’t like this or that for whatever reason.

For several years music wasn’t part of my life. I might see it on the tele, but I didn’t listen to the radio or buy any albums. So I missed big chunks of getting into certain bands. The nineties come to mind, yes, I liked Oasis, but I neglected Blur, Pulp and the rest of the Britpop scene and what came after. I had bypassed so much.

It was as if I had jumped from glam rock, went through progressive rock and then a blank before waking up a couple of years ago with a craving for past pleasures.

With the rise of music streaming websites, I am again a regular listener and willing to try new things. Though more often than not, these new things are actually old things. The not “cool” stuff and my missed eras.

I created this music section on David’s Day because I want to do two things. One is keeping a diary of what I have listened to, and the other is my life in music.

My life in music is something I have often thought about. It is creating a playlist of music throughout my life. This can be accomplished in two ways. One, choose a single for each year of my life or make a list of songs that mean something to me—linked to moments in my life.
